First time I visited with my son, the two gentlemen who volunteers here are most welcoming straight away, my son loved looking around the museum and lovely little gift shop as well.

Kempton Steam Museum
An absolutely staggering, almost overwhelming place on arrival. Just as we walked in they were starting the Sir William Prescott engine. It was astounding to hear and see. I was quite moved. This machine is three stories tall. Gargantuan. The sight, noise (gentle, but so distinctly mechanical) smell (of lubricating oil) scale, grandeur and beauty knocked me for six.The staff were all very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. Any questions I had were more than fully answered.A minor complaint: not enough seats at which to sit and enjoy my cuppa. However, it was v busy on the day we went.More seriously: Unfortunately, I simply couldn't hear our guide at all when they ran the engine, which was a real shame. Even when it was not running, it was difficult to hear him due to the high level of background noise, amplified as it was in this cavernous space. I wear hearing aids, but I wasn't the only one so affected in my tour. Can this be addressed in some way?Without this problem, the museum would definitely have got a rating of 5 stars.I cannot believe that someone could come away unimpressed by this place. Even complete mechanical numpties. If you can, go on a day when they run the engine.

If I could give 6 stars it wouldn't be enough. This museum is more than just an attraction..It's a labour of love for many enthusiasts that make you feel so welcome coming into their domain. We were lucky enough to come when there was a steam festival. You can smell the history. What a place!

London Transport Museum
Great insight to the London public transport through the ages, some great things for all ages to do with volunteers carrying out show and tell. Cafe on site with a good variety of products available in the shop, I'll certainly be getting something to remind my Lindon born-btead dad for Christmas something to remind him of travelling on the buses, trams and underground back in his early years. A great couple of hours spent there.

Finally made it down to Stroud during our extended UK holiday and booked in for the morning session. What an amazing experience. Neil and the team were so welcoming and everything was really hands on. Had a blast playing my old favourites and enjoyed some new experiences on computers I didn’t know existed. If you are in to 80s / 90s computer nostalgia this is the place for you. Highly recommended.

Amberley Museum
Great day out for the family. Lots to see and do. We loved the bus and train rides. There are a lot of interactive displays from old (telecoms, electricity, steam engines, etc) to the latest technology. Very educational and great fun. We chose to walk throughout but you can easily use the bus or train if you prefer not to walk as there are stops dotted about. A lot of the attractions are inside so even if the weather is not great you can enjoy the day. There are a few places to buy drinks and snacks. We had lunch at the main cafe and food was very good but it can get very busy with a bit of a wait (around 20min for us) to get the food.

Silverstone Museum
Silverstone Museum is an ideal day out for families and racing enthusiasts alike. We took our car mad grandson there for his birthday and he loved it. As a special treat I Pre booked the race track simulator giving him a great day out. There is ample parking as you would expect. It is modern, spotlessly clean with attentive staff. As soon as you’re booked In you’re given a wristband making it possible to return to your car for any bits and bobs you need. The small cafe is well stocked with fresh food at competitive prices. They do accept cash but prefer card payments for food and souvenirs. The museum gives you the history of Silverstone including a wealth of information on the role of the RAF at the track during World War 2. The tributes to the heroes of the war are poignant and welcome. The museum is extremely good at catering for disabled guests even going as far as having a state of the art disabled toilets. It even has hoist and changing mat with shower for any disabled guest who have had a mishap. I highly recommend Silverstone Museum especially on a typical wet summer day out.

Cambridge Museum of Technology
A confused museum showcasing a somewhat random mix of machinery and tech. Definitely geared towards steam driven machine enthusiasts. The site itself was a rubbish to energy plant and you are free to explore it at your pleasure. Be sure to go on a day when they fire up some machines. Nice cafe on site.
